Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5/6 progression role as a Respiratory Specialist Physiotherapist, within the AHP Medicine team at Scarborough Hospital on the East Yorkshire coast. We are a supportive, and friendly team who are forward thinking and passionate about evidence-based practice and service development.

This role provides a wide range of opportunities that are ideal for a physiotherapist who wants to broaden their skillset and be supported to take the next step to progress into a Band 6 post. Based on the acute wards we work with a highly varied caseload which includes general medicine, critical care, complex respiratory conditions, progressive neurological conditions, and palliative care. There will be opportunities to further develop your leadership and service improvement skills, as well asadvance your clinical skills in this specialist area, via a combination of internal and external training and courses. There will be rotation opportunities between the Medical and Surgical teams.

Scarborough Hospital has funding for a £47 million new build, which is currently underway and due to be completed mid-2024. This will include a new Acute Care floor and a new Critical Care floor. You will be a key member of the MDT working together into this exciting transition into the newly built unit.

Main duties of the job

You will be an active member of the multidisciplinary team, contributing to service development, training, and audit. There will also be the opportunity to supervise and provide mentorship to junior colleagues, includingBand 5 Physiotherapists, Apprentices, Generic therapy Assistants andstudents.

You should be confident in managing a caseload or ward independently, and commitment to the respiratory on call rota is part of your required duties. Service improvement and clinically developing services for our patients is at the heart of what we do, and we value all team members ideas. Training is available via our quality improvement team to develop skills in leading on service improvement projects.

From a support perspective, there is a robust clinical and managerial supervision process in place. Peer support and on-going clinical support isavailable includingaccessing AHP band 6 development forums. You will haveaccess to informal and formal training and CPD opportunities, where learning and sharing is strongly encouraged. We strive for ongoing service development, and participation in projects and audits to this end is highly valued.
