Trust Grade - Medical Oncology - Fixed term to 1 September 2024
Oncology services at York Hospital provide comprehensive non- surgical oncology services except radiotherapy for all common cancers and many intermediate cancers. Oncology and Haematology have a shared bed base on ward 31 with 18 beds. Oncology is part of the Cancer, Specialist & Clinical Support Services and has 7 York based Medical Oncologists plus visiting Clinical Oncologists. We are actively involved in clinical trials and these are supported by a team of research nurses. Oncology has close links with Leeds & Hull for Radiotherapy.
We have supported a number of our Trust Grades to successfully secure places on the formal training programme and into career grade positions.
Whilst the posts available do not form part of the formal training programme, we endeavour to offer post holders the same training and educational opportunities as colleagues in training, including paid study leave. You will be provided with clinical and educational supervision, to enable your personal and portfolio development. There is an active Postgraduate Medical Education Centre on both sites, as part of a dynamic Education and Training directorate, which is developing multi-professional training.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be a central member of a multidisciplinary team providing inpatient and outpatient oncology care. The post holder will be expected to keep themselves up to date with current knowledge & practice, to attend clinical meetings within the department & to participate in audit & "in-service" training of other healthcare professionals.
The post holder will be required to deputise for absent colleagues from time to time and to perform additional duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.
The post holder will also be required to be available exceptionally for such irregular commitments outside normal rostered duties as are essential for continuity of patient care.
We are passionate about developing our workforce and are delighted to support our doctors in enhancing their professional development, including doctors who want to work towards gaining the Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) in Medical Oncology.
