Job summary

A fantastic and exciting opportunity has arisen in the Patient Safety & Quality Governance team as the Patient Safety Manager. We are looking for a highly motivated, experienced and committed Registered Healthcare Professional to join the team on a permanent basis.

The Patient Safety and Quality Improvement teams have recently joined forces and Patient Safety forms one of the three facets of Quality Governance. This rolewill be key as the Trust develops its Quality Strategy, and transitions in the new Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF).

Main duties of the job

  • Leading on incident investigation in relation to patient safety (incidents, serious incidents, structured judgement case reviews etc.).
  • Leading on Quality Assurance in relation to patient safety, including leading the Patient Safety Walkabouts program.
  • Be responsible for the provision of expert patient safety advice and input into strategic issues including the development and implementation of the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF).
  • Have a visible presence with frontline staff supporting them to implement an enhanced patient safety culture.

Essential

  • Leadership and management training/qualification
  • Incident investigation and root cause analysis training qualification
  • Professional / clinical registration
  • Degree level qualification

Desirable

  • Evidence of Human Factors Qualification
  • QI trained
  • Master's Degree in relevant subject (e.g. health studies, management, quality improvement, patient safety) and/or equivalent work experience

Experience and Knowledge

Essential

  • Minimum 3 years' experience in a patient safety or governance role
  • Demonstrable leadership experience in patient safety, reporting and management of incidents, including root cause analysis investigation
  • Experience of working in, developing and implementing systems to monitor and measure patient safety or risk and provide required assurances
  • Demonstrated experience of coordinating projects in complex and challenging environments
  • Experience of leading projects and working across organisations and professions
  • Utilising Datix system

Desirable

  • Project management and / or Improvement methodology
  • Quality improvement projects, methodology and small-scale change using PDSA cycles
