Job summary

We have an opportunity to work and gain experience in the finance department within York and Scarborough Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in an Apprenticeship role. If you have been considering a career in Finance then this is a perfect opportunity to get some broad experience of the many different aspects of Finance.

The Apprenticeship is an 24 month fixed term training position and you will be required to participate fully in studying for an Apprenticeship qualification appropriate to the role.

This post is paid under the Agenda for Change Annex 21 agreement in line with the National Living Wage.

Duration of Apprenticeship: £20,350

Qualified: £22,383

To meet the eligibility criteria for government funded apprenticeship schemes you must be:

  • Aged 16 or over
  • Been resident in the UK/EU for the last 3 years
  • Must NOT have a Degree/Level 4 qualification or above in a finance related field, or already be in any form of formal government-funded education at the point of enrolment.
  • Must have GCSE band 4/grade C and above or Level 2 Functional Skills or equivalent in Mathematics and English, and be able to provide certification.

Main duties of the job

Although an apprentice role, this vacancy is open to everyone regardless of age and ideal for anyone looking for a career within NHS Finance. Over a 24month period you will be fully funded to complete AAT studies around your working role. Providing you achieve the set criteria, at the end of the Apprenticeship you will be Level 3 AAT qualified. This qualification and experience will provide you with the essentials to apply for any vacancies within our department at the end of the placement.

So what about the day job?

You will receive training on all aspects of the role in the Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable Teams.

Duties will include:-

  • Processing invoices and credit notes
  • Answering customer and supplier queries
  • Daily post
  • Working to deadlines

You will demonstrate a willingness and commitment to learning. You will possess excellent communication, organisation, time management and multi-tasking skills. You will be a team player showing initiative in managing your own workload to meet the demands of the service. Good IT skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office applications is required and training will be given on our finance systems.
