Nursing posts in Ophthalmology are suitable for newly qualified and experienced nurses. You would work as part of a highly skilled team where you can gain a wealth of experience, supported by a Senior Team, including a designated Mentor. Candidates interested in developing a career in Ophthalmology will have the opportunity to develop a range of relevant skills, working in glaucoma, medical retina, cataract and emergency eye clinics. You will contribute to the provision of elective and emergency care, all while developing your skills and knowledge in our Teaching Hospitals.
Main duties of the job
- Maintain a high standard of patient focused care in accordance with York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust policies and procedures
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment
- Undertake a wide range of diagnostic tests such as visual acuity, visual fields, intra-ocular pressures following the completion of a robust training program.
- Provide assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care for patients, ensuring accurate written records are kept.
- Communicate with patients and carers to ensure they have access to appropriate information.
- Promote and maintain positive relationships between all staff involved in the care of the patient
- Act in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code of Conduct and The Trust's Values (kindness, openness, excellence).
- Undertake duties on different wards/departments as and when required by service demands
- Demonstrate personal responsibility for compliance with infection control policies and procedures
