Job summary

We are looking to recruit to a part time (0.6wte), fixed term (12 months) maternity cover post in our chronic pain team. The post involves operational leadership for a small team of psychologists and psychological therapists who provide input to individuals experiencing persistent pain, this includes the pain management programme, complex clinic and spinal cord stimulator service.The psychology team have close working relationships with the wider Pain MDT in York & Scarborough Teaching Hospital Foundation Trust.

The post holder will sit organisationally within Psychological Medicine, a thriving service at York Hospital with a number of sub specialities. There will be an office base with other psychology colleagues, managerial supervision and support throughout the year.

Main duties of the job

Within pain psychology, the post holder will ensure the systematic provision of a high quality specialist pain psychology service to clients of YTHFT teams, across all sectors of care. Specifically the role will require the following:

  1. Providing specialist psychological assessments and therapy
  2. Offering advice and consultation on patients' psychological care to non psychologist colleagues and to other non-professional carers
  3. Developing, supporting and maintaining effective working relationships with other disciplines within the service areas, including attending Team meetings
  4. Using research skills for audit, policy and service development and leading on research projects within the area served by the team/service
  5. Proposing and implementing policy changes within the specialist area served
  6. Making a contribution to the general management, governance and supervision of the chronic pain service as agreed
  7. Working autonomously in the delivery of these duties within professional guidelines, the evidence-based literature and the overall framework of the Team, Department and Trust policies and procedures
  8. Provision of support to staff delivering to the SCS (Spinal Cord Stimulator) and PMP (Pain management program) psychology pathways, and Complex Pain Clinic
