Job summary

Are you passionate about providing excellent care in the delivery of stroke services and helping to lead a team to deliver outstanding SLT care in stroke and rehabilitation?

You will work within an experienced Speech and Language Therapy team and will be responsible for providing clinical leadership for the inpatient rehabilitation service at Bridlington hospital, and in Ryedale community.

You will be an active member of the multidisciplinary team, contributing to service development, training and audit. There will also be the opportunity to supervise and provide mentorship to junior colleagues, including a Band 5 and a Band 4 Associate Practitioner, general rehabilitation assistants and SLT students.

You should be confident in managing a caseload independently, assessing and treating patients with a wide range of communication and swallowing difficulties related to stroke, and other complex conditions. Experience of dysphagia management is essential.

In addition to this there are also opportunities to broaden your skills.

Main duties of the job

To undertake a comprehensive assessment of patients, including those with diverse or complex/multi pathology presentations. Use judgements on a range of complex speech and language problems which require investigation, analysis and assessment, to provide and deliver an effective treatment plan and to evaluate any intervention.

To formulate and deliver a specialist, individual, goal orientated treatment programme based on sound knowledge of evidence based practice and treatment options using assessment, clinical reasoning skills and knowledge of treatment e.g. treatment techniques and principles, equipment provision and other alternative options.

To ensure a holistic approach to the overall care and management of identified group of clients, including effective working relationships with MDT, specialist equipment providers, consultants and relevant others. At all times you will ensure sensitive and appropriate handling of information, in accordance with the data protection act and Trust policy.

To provide training and advice on changes and adaptations to the patient's lifestyle, considering the environmental, emotional, physical, spiritual and social needs. To address relevant speech and language needs, providing motivational, empathetic and reassurance skills, enabling the patient in areas of self care, personal health management, activity, education and leisure.

About us

Do you have videofluoroscopy skills? If so we run a weekly SLT-led videofluoroscopy clinic which you would play an active role in. If you don't have these skills, we have a dedicated training programme to help you develop the competencies required to work in the service.

There is also a multi million pound development of A&E and Critical Care on the Scarborough site, and with that will come the opportunity to be trained and input in this area.
