Job summary

THE POST- Trust Grade Core Trainee (CT1/2) General Surgery

We are advertising for 6 month fixed term Surgery posts to cover Trainee gaps for both York and Scarborough Hospitals.

NB: We reserve the right to close this vacancy early if we receive a high volume of applicants. Therefore, please apply early to avoid any disappointment. The offer of this Trust Grade post will only be made by the Trust if no candidate is found to be appointable to the training programme vacancy by the Yorkshire & Humber Deanery.

All applicants must have full registration and a licence to practice with the GMC, as well as current Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification

The post holder will be required on the on call rota with an expected rotation of 1 in 9.

Main duties of the job

We have supported a number of our Trusts Grades to successfully secure places on the formal training programme and into career grade positions. Whilst these posts are not a recognised NHS/UK training post, we endeavour to provide our Trust Grade Doctors with equivalent opportunities in terms of development and training, receiving the following:

  • Named clinical supervisor
  • Local Induction and information pack outlining internal training courses/opportunities available to doctors in these non-approved training positions
  • Individual Personal Development Plan and annual Appraisal - Individual access to the NHS e-appraisal system (funded by the Trust for posts that are six months or longer)
  • Support towards obtaining Alternative Certificate confirming achievement of foundation competencies, to aid those who want to access a recognised training position in the future" ALS, ATLS, CcRISP and TILS are all provided locally.

About us

YORK TEACHING HOSPITAL NHS FOUNDATION TRUST

We provide acute and community services for approximately 530,000 people living in and around York and Scarborough, providing a range of specialist services over a wider catchment area across North Yorkshire, East Yorkshire and Ryedale.

In April 2011 the Trust took over the management of some community based services in Selby, York, Scarborough, Whitby and Ryedale. This includes some community nursing and specialist services as well as Archways in York, St Monica's in Easingwold, The New Selby War Memorial Hospital, Whitby Hospital and Malton Hospital.

Scarborough Hospital is the Trust's second largest hospital. It has an Accident and Emergency department and provides acute medical and surgical services, including trauma, intensive care and cardiothoracic services to the population and visitors to the North East Yorkshire Coast.

The Trust currently employs over 8500 staff.
