Job summary
An exciting training opportunity has arisen for a nurse who would like to develop their skills in the field of HIV to work towards the role of Advanced Nurse Specialist in HIV (Band 7).Usually a two year training program, however, a Nurse with previous Sexual Health and/or Contraception and/or HIV experience may not require the full two years.
Following completion of this training and competencies, you will become an HIV Advanced Nurse Specialist able deliver a high quality HIV treatment service alongside our multi-disciplinary team.
Your training will include elements of in house training, self-directed learning and as a requirement of the service completing a non-medical prescribing qualification if not already undertaken. The successful candidate will be based in York but will be expected to travel to our other HIV treatment services provided across the county.
Part time hours (a minimum of 22.5 hrs per week) will be considered, to be discussed at interview.
Main duties of the job
The Band 6 HIV Nurse Specialist will be responsible for providing clinic based and remote HIV care to patients, whilst developing skills, completing required training, and undertaking a non-medical prescribing course.
Once you have become a Band 7 HIV Advanced Nurse Specialist you will take on specialist interest roles, lead on service improvement projects and manage the day to day running of the clinics. The service provides support and appointment clinics 5 days a week in services across York and North Yorkshire.
The department has a consultant and nurse-led approach to the delivery of services and care. Once trained you will be responsible for the autonomous management of total episodes of care for patients including patient assessment, independent examination, STI screening, supply of HIV treatments and ongoing patient support.
