Job summary
An excellent opportunity has arisen for a NMC or HCPC registered professional to work as a Transfusion Practitioner within our Blood Sciences Department based at the Scarborough Hospital site of the SHYPS pathology network.
The post holder will be part of a clinical support team and will work closely working closely with the Lead Transfusion Practitioner to lead the education and training of staff from varied professional backgrounds across the trust maintaining, investigate incidents across the trust and maintain traceability in line with regulatory requirements.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will lead the training and education of staff from different professional backgrounds in matters related to blood transfusion and administration of blood products.
Other duties will include
- maintaining traceability records in line with BSQR 2015 and MHRA regulatory requirements.
- clinical audit of transfusion procedures,
- competence assessment involved in requesting and administration of Blood products.
- reviewing and updating Trust transfusion policy
- The investigation and reporting of incidents and complaints both within trust incident reporting systems and external schemes i.e., SABRE/SHOT
Familiarity with research and/or audit procedures as well as change management skills would be an asset. Applicants should have effective organisation and time management skills and be able to work to deadlines.
The post holder should be able to work independently and across disciplines as a member of a multi-disciplinary team. Good communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
This position will be based at the Scarborough Hospital site but some travel across other hospital sites may be required as part of this position.
