Job summary
Are you passionate about ICU (Intensive Care Unit) - Critical Care Nursing ? Would you like to develop skills in Critical Care with the support of our friendly unit ?
We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our ICU-critical care nursing team, you will be an excellent communicator and have a positive attitude towards flexibility and change. Interpersonal skills are essential and you will be an asset to the team demonstrating the ability to be forward thinking and passionate about delivering high standards of care.
Our ICU service has 12 beds which are managed between 2 units and we care for 800 patients each year. Bedfordshire Hospitals ( L&D Site) is the tertiary centre for Maxillofacial Surgery & Bariatrics so both of these patient types are regularly managed through critical care.
It is a really exciting time to be joining our Critical Care team as brand new facilities are currently being built as part of a £168.8m capital scheme - the new ICU will be able to accommodate up to 22 patients in a modern spacious environment with up to date technology supporting the nursing team to deliver excellent care - we will be moving in autumn of 2025 so come and join us !
We are a member of the East of England Critical Care Network and participate in Intensive Care National Audit & Research Centre so we can help to contribute to improving outcomes in critical care.
This post is not suitable for newly qualified nurses or those soon to qualify.
Main duties of the job
As an ICU Nurse, you will assess, plan, deliver and evaluate high standards of nursing care, ensuring highest level of customer service is delivered to patients. We will offer you an exciting and challenging work environment and we are committed to the training and development of our staff with the opportunity to complete the 60credits "management of Critically Ill adults" Intensive Care Course, with PDN and nurse mentors support. We are participating in training of Advanced Critical Care Practitioners and we have 2 nurses in training who support the medical team.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead on the delivery of individualised patient care acting as the named nurse, ensuring assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation is in line with evidence base practices.
- Communicate effectively with dignity and respect to patients, relatives, staff and others.
- Ensure accurate and comprehensive nursing records using IT Healthcare systems available.
- Maintain continuing professional development (CPD) requirements and contribute to formulation of own objectives and personal development plan.
Skills & Experience
- Registered Adult Nurse with up to date NMC registration
- Clinical experience in an Acute Care setting.
- Familiar with basic physiology, have a theoretical knowledge base for acute nursing, including mechanical ventilation, renal replacement therapies, advance haemodynamic monitoring, and knowledge on medication administered in Intensive Care Settings.
