Job summary
The main reception desk is the hospital's 'shop window' and the first impression gained by patients and visitors is most important. The main receptionist is often the first person that patients and visitors to the hospital will meet and talk to. Therefore it is essential that the receptionist is helpful, efficient and capable of dealing with a wide range of queries and problems, both in person and on the telephone and also able to deal with all kinds of people.
The main receptionist will be part of a team managed by the Outpatient Admin Department. The receptionist will be required to cover some bank holidays and also to cover colleagues on annual leave. The post also requires weekend working.
Main duties of the job
- To direct, inform and liaise with patients and members of the general public
- To answer patients enquiries personally and on the telephone
- To maintain a register of keys, issuing to authorised personnel
- To liaise with facilities regarding Health & Safety, cleanliness issues and report faults.
- Using various Hospital IT Systems including IPM and Nerve Centre to advise on the location of patients and to confirm appointments.
- Issuing car park exit tickets to patients/relatives meeting the criteria.
- To assist with the registration of lost property forms
- To liaise with multiple internal departments as required
- To supply hearing aid batteries to patients and maintaining supply
- To assist vulnerable patients with the booking of transport
- To train volunteers and staff members on an Apprenticeship
- To undertake any other reasonable duties as requested by the Outpatient Admin Department.
