This is an exciting opportunity to join the expanding anaesthetic department at Luton & Dunstable Hospital as a vascular anaesthetist. Vascular services will be translocated to the Luton site from Bedford with the expansion of arterial vascular service at Luton.
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic consultant to join our busy, friendly and expanding department.
The appointee will anaesthetise specifically for specialist vascular lists and a variety of other elective surgical specialties. Our case mix is interesting, culture supportive and the Trust has a progressive approach to service development and clinician involvement. The non-resident on-call commitment covers emergency surgery and obstetrics. The appointee will participate in a 1:20 on call commitment based at Luton & Dunstable Hospital.

Luton and Dunstable hospital is located within easy access to central London and the Midlands. London Luton Airport is within fifteen minutes' drive from the hospital.

Main duties of the job
The main duties and responsibilities of the post include:
o Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of patients undergoing anaesthesia.
o To undertake sessions in vascular theatres, vascular pre assessment clinics and MDTs in the vascular anaesthesia service. The job will also involve working flexibly to cover various surgical specialities via job planning.
o To undertake duties as part of the on call out of hours rota covering general emergency, maternity theatre and paediatric emergencies.
o To work constructively and flexibly with colleagues in the Department of Anaesthesia, Intensive Care Medicine and Integrated Pain Management to provide the best care for patients.
o Teaching and training of intermediate grade and junior medical staff, nursing staff and medical students.
o To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.
o To have responsibility for and actively participate in Continuing Professional Development (CPD). The Trust is committed to providing the time and financial support for these activities.
