Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a band 4 Nurse Associate to join the team in the Surgical Short Stay Unit.

Patients undergoing surgical procedures will be admitted in The Surgical Short Stay Unit and patients having day case procedures will then be discharged later from the same unit. The Nurse Associate will be responsible for admitting and discharging patients as per their surgical care plan and under the supervision of the nurse in charge. Staff will also be rotated onto the Surgical Short Stay Ward, caring for surgical patients during their planned post-operative overnight stay.

We are looking for a good team player and someone with initiative and enthusiasm for the role. We are also looking for someone who puts patients first and provides excellent care throughout the entire peri-operative journey.

The post holder will beresponsible for delivering high quality, patient centred, compassionate care under the direction of a Registered Nurse with a focus on promoting health and independence. They will be an accountable professional and have the ability to work without direct supervision, at times delivering care independently in line with the individual's defined plan of care, within the parameters of practice of the Nursing Associate role, accessing clinical and care advice when needed.

Main duties of the job

The Nurse Associate will admit and discharge patients and ensure that all information is given to the patients and their relatives to aide their recovery. The Nurse Associate will work closely with their Registered Nurse and Clinical Support Worker colleagues to ensure consistent patient flow through theatres.

  • Implement and evaluate individual care/treatment plans. Ensure care is documented accurately and in a timely manner
  • Coordinate and undertake the safe admission, transfer and discharge of patients in accordance with the Organisation's standards, protocols and policies.
  • Develop and improve practical and theoretical knowledge, competence and skills throughout the Nursing Associate Role and maintain all evidence required
  • Communicate effectively across a wide range of channels and with a wide range of individuals, the public, health and social care professionals, maintaining the focus of communication on delivering and improving health and care services
  • Demonstrate inter-personal skills that promote clarity, compassion, empathy, respect and trust
