Nutrition Sister/Charge Nurse - Parenteral Nutrition

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to recruit a part time Band 6 Nutrition Sister / Charge Nurse into an established nutrition nursing team working across the adult Parenteral wards supporting patients who may need artificial nutrition and primarily Parenteral Nutrition.

After a supported period of training you will provide specialist care for those referred for and receiving Parenteral Nutrition.

The role also requires the candidate to provide teaching within a classroom setting for student nurses, qualified nurses, junior Drs and practice development educators.

This role will offer candidates the opportunity to develop themselves professionally and gain specific clinical knowledge and skills in this field of nursing in a small, supportive specialist team.

Main duties of the job

You will be required to promote high standards of care for patients receiving intravenous artificial nutrition by assessing; developing, implementing and evaluating their care on Parenteral Ward round two to three times per week.

The post holder will also be required to assist in the support and advocacy of a small case load of home parenterally fed patients who require support and specialist knowledge when admitted as in-patients.

The job requires working and communicating with various multi-disciplinary teams; community staff and those in other trusts, the wider nutrition team, and patients and their families / carers.

We seek a post holder who is highly motivated to work with patients with primarily acute intestinal failure and must be enthusiastic and have knowledge and experience caring for these patients.

They must be confident and display enhanced communication and listening skills and be able to demonstrate skills in autonomous working; the ability to prioritise their workload, being flexible in how they manage their day with the possibilities of changing demands and in future be open to learning to care for Enteral Nutrition patients.

The post holder will be responsible for reducing risk, maintaining safely and have good attention to detail in their daily care of Parenteral Nutrition patients
