Lead orthopaedic practitioner

Job summary

To lead our dedicated Trauma and Orthopaedic Fracture Clinic Department with the Orthopaedic and Nursing teams coordinating with the Matron to provide strong leadership, effective unit management and staff development.

To take responsibility for the assessments of the care needs; the development, implementation and evaluation of care to ensure the highest possible standards of care are received by patients.

To take the responsibility for the delivery of clinical services on the unit, coupled with supporting quality governance, patient experience and department workforce and education.

The post holder will be required to work in all areas as required to meet the needs of the service.

The post holder is required to hold an up to date British Orthopaedic Association (BOA) casting certificate.

Primarily based at Bedford Hospital, with management responsibility for the Gifford Nash Fracture Clinic, alongside providing professional, expert leadership to the plaster service across both hospital sites.

Main duties of the job

To provide kind, skilled, and expert leadership in supporting the unit, whilst possessing the ability to have innovative ideas, empower others and deliver continuous sustained improvements.

To supervise and teach other nursing and non-nursing staff, acting as an excellent clinical role model and team leader to ensure quality care is delivered to the patients.

To lead the unit and liaise with members of the multi-disciplinary team both within the organisation and with external stakeholders, to ensure care is delivered to the patient effectively and efficiently.
