Bedford and Luton & Dunstable Hospitals have merged to form Bedfordshire Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. Under the single NHS Trust, bothhospitals will retain their identity and individual hospital names. A&E, maternity and paediatrics services will remain on both sites, with clinicalservices from both hospitals working as single teams across the whole Bedfordshire catchment area. The Pathology Department at Luton & Dunstable site has a vacancy for a Pathology Administrator. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with excellent written and verbal communication skills, ideally with previous administration experience to take up this role in our busy, friendly Pathology department. The position is based at L&D Hospital and the successful candidates would be a key part of the team to help to continue to facilitate our successful service.
We are committed to developing our services further, through expansion of on-site testing and integration with other services.You will be working with a dedicated team of administrative staff who offer a support service to the Cellular Pathology department whose laboratory is mainly based on the Bedford Site, covering work from both trust hospitals and the surrounding primary care.
Main duties of the job
1. To undertake general office duties.2. Sorting and redirecting of internal and external mail.3. To assist with sorting and distribution of results to Wards, Consultants, GPs and other external Clinicians.4. To assist with the ordering of stationery and maintaining a good level of stock control.5. To accept deliveries and direct them, in a timely fashion, to the correct destination within Pathology.6. To report MDTs and assist in locating and referring work for second opinions.7. To ensure that GP and Consultant lists are kept up to date.

JOB SUMMARY
- The post holder will be required to work independently and as part of a team, liaise with other healthcare professionals, clinicians, laboratory staff, suppliers and/or their representatives.
- The post holder must observe the policies and procedures relevant to the role. The work involves routinely handling paperwork i.e. patient reports, post and deliveries to pathology that may contain pathogenic micro-organisms.
- The department is highly computerised and a good knowledge of IT software is necessary to the role.
OBJECTIVES, PURPOSE & RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POST

To comply at all times with any regulations issued by the Trust, especially those governing Health and Safety at work and to ensure that any defects which may affect safety at work are brought to the attention of the appropriate manager.
It is the responsibility of all staff to minimise the Trust's environmental impact by recycling wherever possible, switching off lights, computers, monitors and equipment when not in use, minimising water usage and reporting faults promptly.
