Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

The closing date is 15 September 2024

Job summary

Applications are invited for two Consultants Physicians to work in our established Diabetes and Endocrine Department at Bedford Hospital which is part of the merged Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

We are looking for highly motivated, innovative and skilled individuals who are passionate about delivering high quality care in Diabetes and Endocrinology. Team work and integrated working are core components of the philosophy of our local service delivery both in specialist and in supporting primary care.

These appointments are full-time posts, however we would encourage anyone looking for flexible working or less than full time to apply as this may be accommodated.

The successful candidates will play important roles within our existing multidisciplinary team, providing excellent inpatient and outpatient services, including general medicine. They will join a dynamic medical and nursing team providing the full range of diabetes care (including a significant HCL service) as well as outpatient endocrinology. General medical inpatient work is shared between 4 consultants.

The appointments will be made in accordance with the Terms and Conditions of Service for Consultants (2003).

Informal discussions regarding the jobs are welcome - please contact Dr Alison Melvin, Clinical Lead Diabetes and Endocrinology, via secretary (01234 795816)

Main duties of the job

Duties will include Diabetes and Endocrine outpatient clinics, general medical inpatient ward rounds on one main ward, approx. 20 patients (13 weeks/year) and supporting the Diabetes and Endocrine multidisciplinary team. Subspecialty interests can be developed or accommodated after discussion with the Clinical Lead and depending upon the needs of the department. Flexibility about start / end times of day and non working session(s) can be considered.

The appointees may participate in an integrated on call rota with colleagues in Acute and General Medicine to provide cover for acute medicine; this is currently on a 1 in 16 basis.
