Job summary
We are looking to recruit one part time Ward Clerk to join an established team who providequality service delivery for Tavistock Day Surgery/ Elective Admissions Unit.
Previous experienceas aWard Clerk and or inAdministrationis desirable; however, a commitment to work and the ability to learn is more important as a comprehensive training package will be provided.-
To provide a front line clerical service to clinical staff within the ward, ensuring an appropriate standard of support is delivered in a timely manner.
As directed by the ward manager, provide a meet and greet receptionist service to visitors, patients and staff, ward logistics permitting.
A key responsibilityis to ensure the timely and accurate inputting of data on the Patient Information Management Systems to capture the admission, transfer and discharge of patients.
To prioritise, co-ordinate and manage the updating of patients through defined pathways. To enable patients to be appropriately assessed, admitted or discharged from the ward bed state which is maintained at all times.
To be suitable for this post you will need to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work on your own but also as an integral as part of the Tavistock Team. You will need to work well under extreme pressure.
You will need to be able to work to committed timescales and key performance targets.
Basic IT knowledge is desirable for this role and NHS experience would be advantageous.
Main duties of the job
Ensure elective patients havenotes available to the clinical staff the day before admission.
Create admission bundles and electronic event packs, ensuring packs are set up and filed in accordance withelectronic filing policy.
Collate and file patient related paperwork within the patient health record, ensuring the information is filed correctly.
In accordance with data protection and patient confidentiality principles, ensure patient health records are stored and located in a secure area and are not at any time left in a public area.
Ensure patient records/names are not visible/are screened from view to members of the public/visitors during the working day.
Undertake generalduties such as photocopying, laminating, mail, stationary ordering, maintenance requests, ordering of non-clinical equipment and goods are completed as required.
Arrange and document further clinical reviews or book follow-up clinic appointments ensuring the patient is informed, where possible, of the appointment prior to discharge.
Undertake Trust mandatory training andattend appropriate training courses identified by the manager as required
Take or request collection and delivery of urgent specimens or prescriptions from pathology or pharmacy as required.
To assist with the booking of transport for patients on simple pathways (i.e. Pathway 0 or Pathway 1 Restart), as requested.
