Job summary
We are seeking a Senior Biomedical Scientist to join the Microbiology department at Bedford Hospital.
The laboratory is equipped with a variety of equipment including the Beckman Coulter Microscan, BioMerieux BacT/Alert Virtuo, Cepheid Gene Xperts, BD MGIT, BioMerieux VIDAS, Biofire TORCH and Film Array, Roche Cobas 6800, Cepheid GeneXpert, Bruker Maldi-TOF, BD Max, Stratec Gemini, MAST Uri System and DS2.
The laboratory has merged with the Luton Microbiology department and delivers a range of investigations to Bedford Hospital, Luton and Dunstable Hospital and the surrounding GPs. The department is UKAS accredited to ISO 15189:2012 and is an IBMS approved training laboratory.
You will work as part of the Microbiology senior team, focussing on quality and training.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will act as a Senior Biomedical Scientist, working with the Lab Manager, Training Officer and Quality Team to support the department with quality processes, documentation and training to maintain UKAS accreditation. Applicants will be expected to have significant experience working with Quality Management systems, knowledge of quality processes and experience training all grades of staff.
The post holder will assist the laboratory senior team with documentation, monitoring of non conformances, performance of audits, implementing quality processes and training. The post holder will assist the laboratory manager in the operational aspects of the department, and the implementation, monitoring and review of any contract, whilst maintaining service continuity and mitigating risk.
