Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic HCPC State Registered Biomedical Scientist to join the Haematology and Blood Transfusion team of our busy, friendly, Blood Sciences department. This post is a 12 month contract covering maternity leave. We have laboratories at Luton & Dunstable and Bedford Hospitals.
Applicants must have relevant experience in Haematology and/or Blood Transfusion, and hold current registration with the HCPC.
We use Beckman Coulter DxH900, Beckman coulter Automate 1200, IL ACL TOP 550 and 350, Grifol Erytra Eflexis analysers and Sebia Capillarys 3 Octa for Haemoglobinopathy screening. We are committed to developing our services further, through expansion of on-site testing and integration with other services.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will contribute to the day to day operations and assist in the technical aspects of the service.
The post holder will assist the specialist BMS and senior laboratory BMS in the delivery of a high quality, efficient and effective service, through the Quality Management System [QMS]. They will contribute to the implementation of change as directed by the laboratory seniors/manager, when delegated or appropriate to service needs.
The post holder is expected to implement policies and procedures ensuring that the service complies with current UKAS standards, national and European legislation and discipline specific regulatory bodies.
The post holder may be required to assist in the training and development of support staff.

- Completed an IBMS portfolio in standards of proficiency at the required level, to meet the Health and Care Profession Council (HCPC) standards of proficiency for biomedical scientists.
