Job summary

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a pharmacist looking to develop a specialist interest in the field of gastroenterology, due to the current post holder going on maternity leave. As a department we will proactively assist the successful candidate to become the source of specialist knowledge in this field allowing them to become a subject expert in the management of the following medical conditions: inflammatory bowel disease, colorectal surgery and liver disorders.

You will be responsible for delivering the highest possible standards of patient care to our cohort of gastroenterology patients and will demonstrate excellent personal, communication and problem solving skills as we are seeking a clinical pharmacist with the ability to influence senior medical colleagues on consultant-led ward rounds and contribute to guideline and policy development in their respective field.

You must possess the vision and energy to ensure delivery of a clinical pharmacy service which delivers the outcomes patients and clinicians expect. The ability to work in close collaboration with senior medical, nursing and pharmacy colleagues will be essential as will the ability to demonstrate patient focussed and leadership behaviours.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide specialist pharmacist input to daily MDT board rounds and participate in twice weekly consultant-led ward rounds, working as an IP pharmacist actively prescribing medication for inpatients and writing TTAs in real time to facilitate an efficient discharge process.
  • To be a source of expert specialist advice for matters relating to gastroenterology for other pharmacists and other healthcare professionals.
  • To deliver specialist pharmaceutical care including non-medical prescribing as appropriate to a defined caseload of patients, in line with the agreed scope of practice.
  • To support the Clinical Service Line and Pharmacy Department in meeting its risk and clinical governance responsibilities around the use of medicines through effective guideline, policy and SOP development and review.
  • To undertake clinical supervision of Foundation Pharmacists, Senior Rotational Pharmacists and Trainee Pharmacists to support their development both professionally and clinically.
  • To act as a professional role model to all registered clinical pharmacy staff, actively demonstrating integrity, ownership and leadership in all aspects of the role.
