Job summary

The successful candidate will be part of the cross-site management team involved in the overseeing of POCT equipment throughout the Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. As a POCT UKAS accredited department the trust is keen to ensure all POCT equipment is managed by the POCT teams. Currently the trust had Radiometer ABL90 blood gas analysers, Roche Inform II glucose meters, Liat PCR analysers and Coaguchek pro II INR meters, Nova Ketone meters, Siemens Clinitek Status urine test, Abbott i-Stat infinity and Sight Olo FBC analyser on the Bedford site which are all under the POCT teams management.

Main duties of the job

To oversee

a. the provision of hospital staff training and competency.

b. the carrying out of iQC and EQA by the users and investigating any failings.

c. offering advice to users over equipment choice for POCT.

d. Liaising with the POCT clinical leads over suitability of equipment

e. Validation of new equipment prior to release to the users.

f. monitoring stock to ensure service is not compromised.

g. ensuring the POCT equipment is used in the correct manner and by appropriate staff.

Job responsibilities

The POCT site Co ordinator is expected to coordinate clinical activities with the POCT Consultant lead and POCT clinical team.The POCT site Co ordinator will have line management accountability for scientific and support staff in Pathology POC including recruitment, training, development, appraisal and performance.Where necessary the POCT site Co ordinator will deputise for other POCT site co ordinators associated in POC services in respect to the QMS.

Specific Service/Department ObjectivesWhere required to provide specialist knowledge and skills in the Trust for operational and technical support and advice in result production and interpretation for tests conducted within POCTTo be responsible for maintaining an up to date expert knowledge of POCT services to ensure consistent competency levels through annual reassessment protocols where identified.Where identified assist the Pathology Support Services manager in implementing guidelines issued by the MHRA, NICE and NSFs commiserate with POC testing are complied with, whether National, Regional or Local and liaise with other departments in order to provide the required level of service.To utilise knowledge & skills for research and development in the evaluation of POC equipment and new methodology, contributing to the final evaluation report that includes statistical analysis of data with graphical representation to aid the decision making process.Where required to participate in all aspects of POC, particularly where special expertise is required, with the ability to perform all tests and assays in a methodical and scientific fashion, to a high level of accuracy and precision.Where required to contribute to the Point of Care Testing [PoCT] service in respect to validation of equipment.To ensure that problems relating to the clinical management of patients are brought to the attention of the POC clinical support team.To liaise with other associated Trust departments when required for the management of current POC equipment or instructed by senior Pathology management.To implement the UKAS standards for PoCT using the Pathology Quality Management System in its entirety to fulfil of the quality circles inherent to the ISO 15189:2022 standards of compliance.To be responsible for the design and delivery of training in conjunction with the Trust Training Department ensuring PoC tutorials, one to one training and competency assessments are fulfilled in accordance with ISO 15189:2022 and where appropriate utilising the Training Module of the Q-Pulse system.To manage all aspects of the day-to-day operation of PoCT services within the team. This will include overseeing the monitoring and review of equipment ensuring maintenance, performance monitoring, IQC and EQA is completed in a timely way.To manage PoCT service development in the supply of cost per test, including device and reagents, and be involved in providing a robust mechanism for SLA contracts or governance agreementsTo actively participate in the Point of Care Management Committee.
