Job summary

Following significant investment an exciting opportunity has arisen at Bedford Hospital to join the newly expanded theatre leadership team for an individual who has the compassionate leadership abilities to empower and enable their teams to shape their area to provide the highest quality, most effective care for the benefit of our patients and the whole department.

This posts will be interesting, challenging and provide plenty of variety, including the opportunity to use your clinical expertise working alongside your team to care for our patients.

Within this role the post holder will be directly accountable for the continual operational management of the theatre's as well as risk and governance for the theatre department including staff compliance to policies and procedures, teaching and induction of staff, governance and professional practice. The Post holder will also be jointly responsible for the 24 hour management of the theatre complex along with the other band 7 senior practitioners, theatre coordinator and theatre manager's.

Main duties of the job

Our Senior Theatre Practitioner will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with their respective Clinical Service Line teams to measure and monitor their performance and outcomes, as well as being supported to identify potential service developments and put their ideas into practice.These roles will include exciting opportunities for professional development, such as a leadership development programme to nurture the newly expanded senior team, as well as individualised development support.The operating theatre department is home to 11 operating theatres, including a high specification multi-functional Storz OR1 theatre. A wide range of laparoscopic surgery is performed in the facility.The hospital also has a very busy orthopaedic and trauma service that provides a range of services and undertake a wide variety of elective and emergency surgeries including a comprehensive vascular service including EVAR services.
