Job summary

Applications are invited for a full time (10 PA) Consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery with Upper Limb interest, based at Bedford Hospital NHS Trust.

In addition to the Consultant staff, the department is staffed by 2 Staff Grade Surgeons, 2 Specialist Registrars (Cambridge rotation), 6 Senior Clinical Fellows (middle grade), 4 FY2 and 5 Clinical Fellows and 1 ST1 trainees.

Facilities include combined Elective and Trauma wards, a separate Day Surgery Unit, 2 laminar flow theatres, dedicated to Orthopaedics, a separate Orthopaedic outpatient department, HDU and ITU facilities and modern on-site imaging facilities including MRI, CT and one of the few gamma-CT scanners in the country.

Main duties of the job

Candidates should be fully trained in General Orthopaedic Surgery with an interest in Upper Limb. The successful candidate will join a team of 7 Consultants

All consultants have a responsibility for general trauma and the successful candidates will participate in a 1 in 8 trauma week.

The Trust has been named as one of the 'top 40' hospitals for eight successive years by the independent data analyst CHKS. All major specialties are represented on site, including vascular and plastic surgery.

The hospital is conveniently located between the A1 and M1 motorways. Bedford is an attractive town with excellent road and rail links to London, excellent state and private schools and many popular villages within easy commuting distance of the hospital.
