Job summary

The post holder will provide the Trust with strong leadership and strategic direction in the field of Clinical Engineering (formerly EBME) and medical device management - communicating regularly with clinical staff, managers and directors to advise and support on all matters relating to the organisation's medical devices.

Clinical Engineering is a specialist team engaged in overseeing all aspects of medical equipment management, which spans from research, design and installation, through to maintenance and eventual disposal. Incorporated within Clinical Engineering is the Medical Equipment Library (MEL): whose primary focus is distributing medical devices where needed, in a timely manner. Therefore, comprehensive practical knowledge; relevant qualifications; technical expertise of managing such services; and working with highly specialised medical devices and multi-disciplinary teams across the organisation are fundamental to this position.

As a senior leader within the Directorate, you will be expected to work across various teams / sites and act as a champion for the Medical Devices Management Systems driving continual improvement throughout the organisation in order to improve the resilience and quality of service delivered.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder is a member of the Estates Division with delegated authority to manage the Clinical Engineering Department (EBME) at Bedford Hospital NHS Trust sites. This includes implementation, monitoring, and delivery of operational activities.

As a manager with ownership of the trust's (EBME) Maintenance Service, Equipment library, and Training for Core devices, the post holder is responsible for ensuring compliance with statutory regulations, Trust Policies, Clinical Negligence Scheme for Trusts, Care Quality Commission Standards, Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) - Managing Medical Devices, National Patient Safety Agency (NPSA) bulletins, and current best practices, making sure the service is efficient, cost-effective, and showing continuous improvements in service delivery.

The post-holder will ensure that the EBME Department is maintaining performance and quality standards as set-out in the KPI documentation providing assurance to the Medical Devices Manager and Medical Equipment Group.
