Job summary

The role is to assist in the management of the Provision of a POCT service at The Luton and Dunstable Hospital.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will assist in the maintenance of POCT equipment and training of staff within the hospital in the procedures for using said equipment. They will be required to perform and monitor external quality Assessment and internal quality control.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  1. To actively participate in the provision of support and maintenance of rapid diagnostic testing using multiple platforms.
  2. To provide advice to service users on the sample types required.
  3. To have theoretical knowledge of the analysers in use.
  4. Perform and record analyser maintenance including environmental and quality controls.
  5. Perform and record External Quality Assurance.
  6. Perform basic troubleshooting of any equipment.
  7. To train staff in the use of the equipment.
  8. Ensure accurate stock records are kept and stock is stored safely and appropriately.
  9. Monitor and log reagent storage environment.
  10. Understand and comply with the relevant standard operating procedures, UKAS standards 15189:2012 and UKAS standards 22870:2016.
  11. Referring to a senior member of the POCT team when issues arise outside of their competency or area of responsibility.
  12. Make interpretive judgements of results from multiple analysers under the supervision of HCPC registered Biomedical Scientists
  13. To closely liaise with the site operations team to ensure patient flows from the Emergency departments and within the trust are maintained.
  14. To communicate varied and complex information clearly, both written and verbally to ensure decisions and the rationale on which they are based is accurate and clearly understood.
  15. To analyse data and provide reports on testing performed as and when required.
  16. To keep accurate and precise records including patient results, training documentation, IQC and EQA scheme results.
  17. To undertake audit and evaluation of equipment when required under the supervision of HCPC registered Biomedical Scientists.
  18. To upwardly report clinical issues and any problems or difficulties encountered.
  19. To observe strict confidentiality in relation to patients and their treatment.
  20. To receive an annual appraisal from line manager and keep up to date with statutory training requirements.
  21. To carry out any other reasonable duty as assigned by their line manager.
  22. To undertake other duties commensurate with the post as directed.
