Job summary

The Luton and Dunstable Maternity unit has an opportunity for Maternity Care Assistants to join us in a busy maternity unit. You will provide care to women, and their families from a diverse population from the Luton, Dunstable and surrounding areas.

We currently have vacancies in all clinical areas, however, we give our Maternity Care Assistants the opportunity to work in all areas, depending on the needs of the service. This includes the antenatal ward, postnatal ward, community, and delivery suite.

If you are a caring, enthusiastic individual who is willing to learn new skills and undertake a variety of activities within a busy environment we welcome your application.

All Health Care Assistants are required to undertake nationally recognised training programmes in line with this position and will receive a recognised certificate after successful completion. We will provide a comprehensive 2 week induction which must be attended prior to commencing employment, there will also be opportunities for further training and study days once you are established in your new role.

You will need to be aged 18 and over to apply for this role.

You will be required to work flexibly to cover the service. This includes a variety of days, nights, weekends, and public holidays (Including religious holidays).

Please note that an English and Math assessment will be required on the recruitment day with a minimum pass rate of 60%. Successful candidates will then be selected for interview.

Main duties of the job

  • To help support midwives with the antenatal, postnatal and intrapartum care and assist in parent education including feeding support.
  • To aid in ensuring a safe environment for women and their babies both within the hospital and in the community setting.
  • To assist with antenatal clinics and visit women postnatally under the direction of the community midwife.
  • Attend the mother's non midwifery needs whilst in labour, encouraging and supporting her and her partner and family.
  • To assist the midwife with both normal and instrumental deliveries.
  • To support women with infant feeding
