Band 3 advert Assistant Audiologist
This is an exciting opportunity to start a career in Audiology. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our busy team at the Hospital.
The successful candidate will play an important role, mainly a patient facing role, supporting our patients with the aftercare of their hearing aids. This post is offered as a training post. The post holder is required to undertake a Hospital-funded Hearing Care Assistant course provided via Angela Ruskin University. The course duration is 9 months and involves University-delivered study, self-directed study and work based learning. Your competencies will be assessed by multiple choice examination, a portfolio, and a final practical exam. Once successfully completed, the course opens up potential for career development, including entry eligibility for the FdSc Hearing Aid Audiology course.
Main duties of the job
Undertake telephone interviews with patients to review progress with recently fitted hearing aid(s), maintaining appropriate records.
Make appropriate entries against individual patient records on the department's patient management system, Audit
To undertake hearing aid repair clinics, including:
Servicing/replacement/repair of all models of hearing instruments and devices supplied by the department,
Servicing and/or replacement of and parts and accessories for thin tube fittings,
Modification/replacement of earmoulds, including taking earmould impressions,
Advice and sign-posting to appropriate associated services and agencies.
Participate in the department's diagnostic service to include not-masked audiometry and tympanometry
Responsible for the Adult appointment booking system, taking into account priority lists and waiting time targets. To closely monitor waiting times and notify of impending target breaches and booking trends.
Participate in stage A equipment checks for Adult and Paediatric Audiology service.
Undertake otoscopy to ascertain if patients require ear clearance.
To cover for Reception staff during periods of annual leave and sickness, sometimes at very short notice
Participation in the Department's professional, clinical and statutory training, including the training of students.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Undertake telephone interviews with patients to review progress with recently fitted hearing aid(s), maintaining appropriate records, and making required entries onto the departments patient management system.

- Provide administrative and clerical support to the department, and some Reception cover.
- Undertake pre-arranged telephone interviews with consented patients using a standard interview format and outcome questionnaire. Select appropriate outcome decision for each patient (discharge, review by telephone again, refer for Third Sector support, or book for Audiologist review).
- Following telephone interviews, make appropriate entries against individual patient records on the departments patient management system, Auditbase.
- Make appropriate entries onto Auditbase for patients who fail to answer the phone for their interview. Rebook or discharge patient, following departmental protocol.
- Maintain statistical data relating to the telephone follow-up service, sufficient to allow reporting and monitoring.

- To maintain Department records including PMS entries, stock control systems, equipment calibration and service records.
- Participate in monthly statistical collections (Room Monitoring checks, etc.).
- To participate in the administrative and clerical support requirements of the service, including activities such as checking, prioritising and registering referrals onto the Patient Management System, opening and dealing with post, sending and receiving earmoulds, collation and filing of letters/documents, dealing with telephone queries and the departmental answerphone system, and other ad hoc duties as the service requires.
- Assist in the tracking of hospital records in and out of the department, including collecting hospital records from collection point, if required.
