Job summary

To autonomously assess individual patient needs who are receiving systemic anti-cancer treatment, initiating investigations, determining differential diagnosis and initiating appropriate holistic, evidence based treatment and care. To provide specialist and advanced clinical skills supporting the medical staff and nursing teams within the oncology department and to participate in the education and development of chemotherapy staff.

Main duties of the job

The Chemotherapy Practitioner Nurse is a cutting-edge role in the field of advanced clinical practice, which crosses professional boundaries, undertaking traditional medical roles and leading inter-professional practice. It is a role model of excellence in the delivery of holistic care to patients. The post holder will demonstrate critical thinking in the safe clinical decision-making process and is required to deliver an advanced level of clinical practice within the field of speciality care. Working within local and nationally agreed protocols and guidelines, demonstrates the knowledge and skills across the Four Pillars of Advanced Practice. With support and supervision the postholder will support service delivery and leadership working alongside colleagues in support of the education and development of nursing staff and medical colleagues.

  • o1st level Registered nurse with valid registration oEducated to degree level. (BSc Hons Nurse Practitioner) or working towards this level. oIndependent prescribing qualification (nurse/pharmacist) or willing to undertake oChemotherapy course - passport

  • oTeaching qualification oEvidence of leadership development oEvidence of management development oAdvanced communication skills

Experience
