An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, motivated and flexible individual to be part of a professional team maintaining and repairing medical devices within Bedford Hospital, and any other associated Trust establishments across the Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust including outreach clinics and establishments used in the course of Trust business.

The successful candidate must possess an electronic background with medical device technology certification or equivalent training and experience. You will need to be able to work on your own initiative, have good interpersonal skills and a developed ability to communicate well.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic person to join our Clinical Engineering team to carry out maintenance/repair on a wide range of diagnostic medical devices across Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust.

You will be expected to have a BTEC ONC/HNC or equivalent in Electrical / Electronic Engineering or possess the required level of experience in maintaining and repairing microprocessor-based electronic equipment. Evidence of good practical skills, sound knowledge and an understanding of maintenance is a prerequisite of the post and you will be expected to demonstrate this at the interview.

Applicants should have an adaptable, flexible approach to work and be able to demonstrate they can work very well within a team as well as be able to use their own initiative.

Qualifications

Essential

  • BTEC HNC/HND or equivalent level of experience in an appropriate engineering field

Desirable

  • Medical Engineering degree or equivalent
  • Professional membership of a relevant professional body e.g. status of Clinical Technologist under the Health Professionals Council (HPC) or a willingness to work towards this within 12 months of commencing the role

Knowledge

  • Planned and corrective maintenance Experience
  • Logical fault finding methodology

Desirable

  • Good level of knowledge and understanding of infection prevention and hazards in a healthcare environment.
  • Ability to communicate with staff at all levels
  • Understanding of quality management systems: ISO 9001, BSI 70000 and ISO 13485
