This full-time (10 PA) senior trainee post offers outstanding experience in a large comprehensive cancer centre, one of Europe's largest specialist services and one of 2 UK centres of excellence for prostate cancer research (The FASTMAN team) with an international reputation for training and research.Starting August 2026 (no on-call), the job plan combines high-volume operating, specialist outpatient clinics, diagnostic sessions and active participation in specialist MDTs. The successful candidate will contribute to, and increasingly help lead, a tertiary referral service, with a primary focus on prostate cancer and open/robotic pelvic exenteration and retroperitoneal surgery, alongside wider complex surgical oncology as required.We are seeking a senior surgical trainee with demonstrable core urology skills, 8 years' full-time postgraduate training (including at least 4 years in a specialty training programme), and a clear commitment to surgical oncology. You should bring recent evidence of research and teaching activity and a strong ambition to drive clinical and translational research to national and international presentation and publication.For trainees aiming for future leadership and service development in rare genital and retroperitoneal malignancy, this role provides the caseload, mentorship and academic platform to grow.
Main duties of the job
You will provide key clinical support to the prostate cancer service and the complex retroperitoneal and pelvic cancer teams, helping deliver high-quality Level II and Level III urological cancer surgery. Working alongside Consultant Urological Surgeons, you will contribute in theatre, specialist outpatient clinics and diagnostic sessions, and take an active role in relevant MDT pathways. You will collaborate closely with junior doctors and maintain strong professional links with senior medical colleagues to ensure safe, coordinated tertiary care.Alongside specialist surgical work, you will contribute to broader clinical duties, service administration and teaching, supporting high standards of documentation, communication, and patient centred decision making. You will engage fully in education and training activities, both as a learner and as a teacher, and contribute to the development of colleagues within the wider team.A clear commitment to research is essential. The post holder will be expected to participate--and increasingly lead in clinical and translational research in prostate, testis and pelvic/retroperitoneal malignancy, with the goal of achieving national or international presentation and, where possible, publication during the post.You will also contribute actively to regular audit and quality improvement, helping the service evaluate outcomes, refine pathways and maintain excellence in complex cancer care

Support smooth running of tertiary referral pathways through effective coordination with MDT coordinators, specialist nursing and administrative teams. Contribute to service development tasks as agreed (e.g., pathway refinement, clinic efficiency, theatre productivity, referral triage processes). Ensure communication with referring teams is professional, consistent and clinically robust. Teaching Participate in departmental teaching and skills development sessions. Provide day-to-day supervision and practical teaching to junior doctors and trainees (ward-based, clinic, theatre and MDT learning).
