This is an exciting opportunity to work in a locum post split across Germ Cell and Acute Oncology medical oncology services.The role is for 10PAs with an equal split across each area. The successful applicant will work at The Christie NHS FT main site.The successful applicant will join two busy medical teams delivering high quality patient care for the region

Main duties of the job

The postholder will work across both disease groups as follows:Germ Cell - delivering two clinics per week and playing active role in regional MDT.Acute Oncology - leading on inpatient reviews and decision-making on the wardsThere is a 1:20 full-week on-call rota. The on-call consultant provides a post-take ward round each morning to review all newly admitted patients.

Job responsibilities

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe appointee will be expected to develop a significant interest in Germ Cell and Acute Oncology delivering systemic therapy and undertaking clinic duties and inpatient reviews at the Withington site. The post holder will be actively involved in delivering all aspects of systemic therapy.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD)The Trust supports the requirements for CPD as laid down by the GMC and royal colleges and is committed to providing time and financial support for these activities.

Job PlanningThe job plan outlines the requirements of the post and may be altered by joint agreement with the Divisional Clinical Director and Service Manager and in response to service needs. Job Plans are prospectively agreed subject to an annual individual job plan review (May September). It is expected that the initial Job Plan discussion will take place within the first six months of employment at the Trust and then be aligned to the Trusts annual Job Planning review cycle.

The annual review will examine all aspects of the job plan (including any educational and supervision components) and will also include an assessment of professional development with defined goals for the future. Essential Training/Mandatory TrainingTo ensure you maintain safe practice and understand Trust requirements, you must ensure your essential/mandatory training modules are maintained at all times using allocated core SPA time to complete them.

It is the requirement of the Trust that all new consultant colleagues must have 0.25 SPAs within their job plan to support Trust appraisal and supervision requirements. This can either be as appraiser or a supervisor for medical staff or Advanced Clinical Practitioners (ACP).

On call CommitmentsThis role does require participation in the on-call rota. Consultants in the department share in an on-call rota that involves a commitment to a full week in every twenty weeks. This covers the Specialist Registrar who is second on-call. The on-call consultant provides a post-take ward round each morning to review all newly admitted patients, and any sick patients escalated by the team. This takes place seven days per week. Given the low frequency of on-call (1:20) the PAs associated with the predictable element of weekend on-call work form part of the job plan rather than time in lieu and is reimbursed as an additional 0.27 PA. This may be reviewed in the future if requirements for on-call change.

The post holder will have access to office accommodation with computer, intranet and internet and admin/secretarial support

  • Entry on the General Medical Council (GMC) specialist register via one of the following: a.Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) (the proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview) b.Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration
  • Evidence of productive ethical research relevant to oncology

Desirable

  • An appropriate higher degree
  • Recent publications in peer-reviewed journals

Experience

  • Appropriate experience across all disease groups in Medical Oncology as well as clinical trials experience (including Good Clinical Practice accreditation).
  • Wide experience of Oncology including Breast Cancer
