Main tasks/overview of responsibilities
To provide leadership to Outpatient, Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) & Phlebotomy Departments across the region to ensure professional and clinical standards of excellence.
Take a lead role in service development aligning the service with other outpatient departments within the trust.
Develop and maintain communication with people to enhance business development, clinical care and service feedback
To help maximise the operational and financial performance of the department, working closely with the senior management team and other stakeholders.
To provide excellent customer service and promote a professional and caring environment from all clinical and non-clinical staff.
To manage 3rd party service providers where appropriate.
Responsible for financial / budgetary management / targets within the OPD.
To participate in Manager-on-call rota.
To make certain that our patients and visitors receive excellent care in a friendly, proficient manner.

Appraise, interpret and apply suggestions, recommendations and directives to improve services

Plan, develop and implement approaches to promote health and wellbeing and prevent adverse effects on health and wellbeing
Provide leadership and management advice to ward managers and specialist nurses within their sphere of responsibility

Planning and organisational tasks / duties
1 Together with the Senior Management Team contribute to the operational planning of the service in order to achieve the aims and objectives of the Division and organisation
2 Monitor the delivery of the service whilst promptly identifying and investigating any issues
3 Gain feedback on how to improve service delivery to inform future practice
4 Present complex information to people at Divisional level in relation to service requirements where there are identified issues with efficiency and effectiveness
5 To ensure the planning, management and organisation of their ward/unit environments includes the adjustment of plans/rosters to cover emergencies (i.e. rostering short term cover)
6. To monitor progress of work recognising changing priorities and implement corrective actions within own limits and informing the relevant people.
Patient / service user related tasks /duties
1 Support staff to engage and work effectively with a wide range of diverse people to identify their concerns about health and wellbeing
2 Work in partnership with relevant clinicians to plan, develop and evaluate programmes for health promotion
3 Work closely with members of the public and users of the service so that health and wellbeing can be promoted and implemented effectively
4 Act as a resource for improving health for all users of the service (workforce, patients and carers) reviewing the effectiveness of the approaches available.
5 Take the lead in ensuring that systems are in place so that protective measures can be instigated for people at risk eg environmental risk (infection), patients being harmed/self harmed and PEAT.
Accountable for ensuring care provision is planned appropriately to meet the needs of patients/carers
6 Ensures that peoples dignity, wishes and beliefs are respected and that they are involved in a shared decision making process
7 Ensures that within the context of the overall care planning process, specific goals are identified in relation to complex health and wellbeing needs, involvement of other people/agencies where appropriate
8 To undertake and evaluate nursing interventions consistent with evidence based practice, transferring and applying knowledge and skills to meet patients needs
9 To utilise highly developed physical skills where accuracy is important e.g. in preparing and giving IV injections, assembling surgical equipment, maintaining infusions
10 Evaluates the effectiveness of care delivery systems and makes any necessary modification
11 Ensures accurate and legible records (written and electronic) are maintained in accordance with Trust and national professional policies and guidelines
12 To provide high quality nursing care to meet the needs of the patient to ensure their privacy and dignity is respected at all times
13 To ensure care provided to patients by all nursing staff is appropriate to their
needs and is delivered in a professional manner, whilst empowering/ encouraging patients to contribute to their wellbeing
14 To maintain a highly visible profile, for staff, patients and their families
15 To contribute to the development of the corporate function of nursing and manage the processes by which the quality of nursing care can be regularly monitored e.g. audit, clinical benchmarking, and patient questionnaires
16 Involve other agencies in relation to the identified needs of individuals for the benefit of their wellbeing
17 To investigate and respond to patient complaints ensuring that any lessons learnt are fed back to all staff
18 Remain clinically credible and undertake evaluations of nursing interventions to ensure evidence-based practice
19 The Lead Nurse will lead by example, demonstrating to nurses the high standards of care patients should expect.
20 Work closely with members of the public and service users to continually improve service delivery
Responsibilities for Information Resources
1 Identify and agree with others the appropriate data to be collected
2 Effectively use the agreed systems/methods for obtaining data collection
3 Monitor the quality and quantity of the data and information taking the necessary actions to deal with any problems
4 Collate and analyse the information obtained using the appropriate methods
5 Synthesise the data and information and develop justifiable and realistic conclusions and recommendations
Responsibilities for Human Resources
1 Identify own development needs and set own personal development objectives with feedback from others
2 Take responsibility for own personal development and maintain own PDP
3 Identify the purpose and aims of learning and development within their environment
4 Work in partnership to develop and agree a plan of how learning and development can be facilitated
5 Make effective use of learning opportunities actively promoting the workplace as a learning environment
6 Enable others to develop and apply their knowledge and skills in practice providing timely feedback
7 Undertake annual mandatory training updates and other relevant courses inline with Trust and local policies
8 Support the development of a learning organisation.
9 Ensure the delivery of training and development programmes for the multi-disciplinary team
10 Identify and contribute to the ongoing clinical and service developments in order to enhance quality care
11 Evaluate the effectiveness of learning and development opportunities ensuring processes are in place to gain feedback from learners and relevant others.
