Job summary
This is a new role within the Network Services Division, one of two clinical Divisions at the Trust. The Division comprises Oncology, SACT, Radiotherapy, Haematology, Pharmacy, Nuclear Medicine and Medical Physics and Engineering services.
The Head of Oncology role will provide senior managerial and leadership support to the Clinical and Medical Oncology Services across the Disease Group teams. These are busy and complex services experiencing continual growth and development in treatment options for patients. The post holder will work closely with the Clinical Directors and Service Managers as well as nursing and AHP lead roles. The post holder will be required to communicate highly complex and sensitive information, operate with a high level of clinical awareness, personal influence and skill, working effectively with the wider team, other providers, patients and carers. They will have a proven ability to deliver service improvement in complex environments and will have evidence of excellent interpersonal skills. The successful candidate will have experience of successfully working with multi-disciplinary teams, to deliver services and implement change. They will be expected to contribute to Trust-wide initiatives and projects and to participate in the senior manager on-call rota.
The post holder will also be the deputy for the Divisional Director taking responsibility for agreed pan Divisional issues and deputising in the Divisional Directors absence.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible and accountable for the strategic, operational, performance and business management of the Oncology services including administration services and systems, medical staff management, cancer Waiting time targets/pathway management, financial and budget management, service development and improvement and etc.
The post holder will be highly visible and effectively manage all resources needed to deliver comprehensive Oncology services which provide optimum patient care and staffing models to meet current performance targets and longer-term service developments. The Head of Oncology Services will support the Oncology Disease Groups in responding to operational challenges in a timely and efficient way, identifying immediate and longer-term solutions and opportunities to improve systems and services for the future, in the context of the particular challenges and ongoing growth faced by Oncology services.
The post holder occupies a strategic role within the division and will be expected to support the development of the long-term service strategy as well as contributing to the Trust's policies and future developments. There is also an explicit requirement for the post holder to deputise for the Divisional Director, across all service areas and departments in the Division, and to act as the divisional and cross trust lead for specific issues and projects, as well as identified GM projects as required, in agreement with the Divisional Director
