Transfusion Clinical Practice Facilitator

Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a permanent full-time nurse to join the transfusion team as a CPF.

The role will focus on transfusion training and education incorporating staff support and patient safety.

Management of educational material, with incident support and audit for all practitioners involved in transfusion at the Christie NHS, partnerships, and satellites (if required).

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an individual to work flexibly up until 8pm and clinically 80% of the time:

To coordinate the transfusion training

To prepare, plan and present internal and external educational days

Manage their time and diary to meet the transfusion service needs.

Provide practical and theory training sessions and assessments.

Support clinical staff and facilitate exposure in practice.

Support the transfusion audit calendar and quality improvement projects.

Support incident/error education

Manage educational material.

The Transfusion Team consists of a Haematology Consultant Transfusion Lead, Two Transfusion Practitioners with nursing backgrounds, clinical educational administrator, and Two Biomedical Scientists. We are a small team who meet regularly as part of our terms of reference and work closely as a team to support a safe transfusion service.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Clinical

Support all levels of practitioners to develop and maintain safe practice.

Work at least 80% of the time clinically supporting practitioners in the clinical setting.

Prepares, coordinates and plans teaching sessions and study days.

Prepares clinical assessments and supports the practitioner to complete their assessment.

Maintains and coordinates the transfusion training register, eventually leading on education for transfusion.

Provides regular updates and support to clinical areas on compliance.

Facilitates and supports clinical exposure in practice.

Schedules study sessions that are required and timely.

Provides one to one training.

Promotes a safe and supportive environment for all levels of staff.

Liaises and works closely with trust clinical educators and transfusion link nurses to ensure a safe service.

Supports the transfusion practitioners with clinically based audits and quality improvements.

Provides support to practitioners involved in transfusion incidents or investigations.

Supports, assesses, and evaluates new equipment which may be implemented into the trust.

Identify areas of concern, acts on these immediately and escalate appropriately.

Works within the transfusion team and autonomously to meet the requirements of the trust wide and partnerships, transfusion service.

Manages the transfusion training database and systems and provides updates to the Transfusion Practitioners and clinical areas.

Support editing and updates of policies, and standard operating procedures in transfusion

Manage their time and diary to meet the requirements of the transfusion service in the trust.

Attends the trust educational meeting and committees.

Manages and maintains educational material for training.
