Job summary
We are one of the largest oncology Trusts in Europe with an international reputation for clinical excellence, research and development. This is a unique opportunity to work with us to contribute to the challenging and rewarding specialty of oncology to lead and further develop education and training initiatives within the clinical pharmacy service.
Pharmacy education and training is going to be an exciting and challenging area over the next few years with newly registered pharmacists being qualified with independent prescriber status and the opportunity for the Christie hospital to host Foundation year pharmacists for the very first time.
We currently have an opportunity for a highly motivated, enthusiastic lead education and training pharmacist (band 8b) to join our team. The postholder will provide strategic leadership on pre and post registration pharmacy education and development at The Christie. We have wide-ranging educational opportunities in the department with our pharmacy technicians and early years pharmacists undertaking clinical diplomas as well as senior pharmacists embarking on DPharm / MSc programmes. The postholder will be involved in a co-ordinating a range of activities to support the education agenda, to ensure the provision of an effective and efficient pharmacy service to the Trust, ensuring all patients receive a high level of service and care.
Main duties of the job
Develop and deliver an education strategy that supports the development and delivery of a high-quality pharmacy service.
To meet the training needs of pharmacy professionals and other multi-disciplinary staff within cancer, in order that they can undertake their roles in a manner which encourages safe, clinically effective, and cost-efficient use of medicines for these patients.
Support pharmacy professionals through their SACT accreditation, utilising the British Oncology Pharmacy Association Cancer Pharmacy Education and Training Standards.
Develop local training programmes incorporating both regional and national curriculums for cancer pharmacy professionals' group by developing yearly training plans.
Responsible for assessing cancer pharmacy technicians and pharmacists as competent to undertake patient consultations within outpatient clinics and screen SACT.
Monitor trainee progress to ensure deadlines are met and liaising with relevant internal and external supervisors as required.
Develop a training matrix and workforce roadmap for internal staff to ensure all suitable training is carried out.
- Responsible, with the assistance of the pharmacy transformation delivery manager (workforce), for the development of the pharmacy Learning Needs Analysis and subsequent funding bids for education and training.
