Job summary
We are looking to appoint a Haematologist with interests in Malignant Haematology and Transplantation and Cellular Therapy, full time, to The Christie Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. Clinical responsibilities will be at The Christie Hospital. Existing opportunities for Research and Education. Candidates who are unable, for personal reasons, to work full-time are eligible to apply and, if successful, modification of job content will be discussed on a personal basis, in consultation with consultant colleagues.
Main duties of the job
Clinical activities are centred on management of patients with malignant haematological conditions.
The post includes consultant level on-call commitment, as well as contribution to the consultant inpatient attending rota.
Applicants should demonstrate ability to work with patients of all ages. Experience in the management of adolescents and young adult patients with haematological malignancies, or patients with inherited / acquired bone marrow failure syndromes is desirable. Job planning will be developed in line with the interests of the successful candidate.
The post holder will be supported/encouraged to develop a clinical research portfolio aligning with their area of clinical expertise and will have the opportunity to contribute to existing departmental clinical trials activity.

The post is to act as Specialist Doctor in Haematology with the key responsibilities.
- Lead for the Intrathecal chemotherapy service
- Lead for patients with chromosomal fragility syndromes
- Core Member of the Teenage and Young Adult Service MDT
- Member of the Lymphoid Malignancy team.
Clinical activities are centred on management of patients with malignant haematological conditions.
The post holder will be expected to develop an independent patient caseload and provide robust clinical oversight and leadership in management of their patient cohort. Successful candidate would be expected to be able to work flexibly within a weekly schedule which will include outpatient clinics, MDT meetings, patient-related administration and supporting professional activities (SPAs).
Applicants should demonstrate ability to work with patients over the age of 16 including adolescents and young adult patients.
The post holder would be expected to demonstrate senior leadership qualities and contribute actively to leadership opportunities within the department. With the gradual expansion of departmental clinical activity, opportunity currently exists to provide leadership/service transformation in relation to departmental intrathecal chemotherapy provision for the appropriate candidate. Involvement in service transformation would be recognized in future job planning discussions and appropriate SPA allowance credited.
The post holder would demonstrate robust communication and inter-personal skills and would be encouraged to provide clinical supervision/mentorship to existing haematology trainees within the department, as well as additional junior medical staff. The successful candidate would display organizational efficiency, providing clinical leadership in the co-ordination of haematology clinical cover/on call rota requirements with support from existing clinical service management staff, and in addition would be expected to supervise, guide, and teach junior medical team members in such skills as time management and team working.
