Job summary
We are looking for a highly motivated and resourceful individual for this Project Coordinator role to join our team within the Cancer Prevention & Early Detection (PED) Research Theme in the NIHR Manchester Biomedical Research Centre (BRC).
The candidate should be comfortable and confident working in teams and being directed but equally able to work independently.
An ability to work to deadlines and be task focused will be necessary as well as being a well-organized individual with meticulous attention to detail, who is confident in dealing with multiple tasks within a multidisciplinary team.
The role offers exposure to project management activities within the Cancer PED theme as well as operational elements of setting up and running research projects with a variety of interventions. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing our Community Cancer Insight Group (CCIG); so, a passion for patient and public involvement in research is essential.
We support flexible working, with home-based and office-based options. Some travel across Greater Manchester may be required.
We provide ongoing training and support.

Main duties of the job
The Project Coordinator will primarily support the Research Programme Manager and may be expected to 'take the lead' in some tasks.
The Project Coordinator will provide efficient and effective administrative support, which involves facilitating and monitoring across the BRC PED research theme, such as tracking project progress, running publication searches,
reviewing reports for accuracy, etc.
Due to the nature of PED projects, we require an individual with a track record and passion for research addressing health inequalities, experience of Patient & Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) and ideally with some experience of qualitative research. For example, in conducting focus groups and/or interviews.
A proactive approach to building networks will be required as you will be introduced to researchers and support staff across Greater Manchester.

- Proactively assist with the identification and tracking of funding opportunities appropriate to the research theme
- Assist with the production of grant applications in collaboration with key PED researchers and other staff as required, including collation of financial, Principal Investigator (PI) CV and publications data, ensuring good attention to detail when reviewing documentation and provision of clear and concise feedback to the PI
- Assist with study document development and review including study protocols, participant information sheets, advertising materials, etc providing feedback and making amendments where appropriate
- Assist with IRAS applications
- Request quotes, invoices and requisitions/Purchase Orders using The Christie Finance processes and systems and assist with University Finance management where appropriate
- Assist with generation of study costings which will require a clear understanding of protocol/study requirements, operational aspects of varying complexity and translation into an accurate costing profile.
- Assist with project specific tasks at the request of PED Researchers, including but not limited to questionnaire/survey design and distribution, database design, data entry of questionnaire/survey data, patient/sample tracking, monitoring of study progress, troubleshooting operational issues that may arise
- Assist with projects across PED addressing health inequalities that have arisen from our PED Inclusive Action Plan, including but not limited to further community-based research and engagement work, assisting with new feasibility projects and design/tracking/monitoring of health psychology research projects
- In collaboration with the Cancer PED Programme Manager and Vocal Project Manager, conduct PPIE planning for the theme and management of the Community Cancer Insights Group (CCIG); a community group convened to ensure equality, diversity and inclusion in all activities within the Cancer PED research them
