Job summary

Toprovide first response maintenance support to all wards and departments within the Trust Estate

The post holder will also form a working relationship with key stakeholders in all wards and departments to support the delivery of an efficient responsive maintenance service.

Main duties of the job

To work appropriate to core skills and develop other skills in line the trusts requirements.

1) Maintain and repair hospital equipment or other on-site facilities as delegated to them by the Estates Maintenance Supervisors. The Post holder will be expected to review the task, repair where possible and ensure escalation if appropriate.

2) The list of tasks, and areas to be covered, will be continuously reviewed within the agreed skill level of the post but will include, for example:

a. Macerator Repairsb. Nurse Call

3) To undertake minor Mechanical, Electrical & Building PPM, and Reactive maintenance tasks

4) Ensure the fabric of the hospital provides a safe environment for patients and staff.

5) Communicate & liaise with staff, patients, and ward managers.

6) The post holder will be required to attend all wards and departments to an agreed schedule or as required, as directed by the Estates Supervisors, to ensure all outstanding tasks at ward and department level are completed or reported through maintenance recording systems for future action.

7) To assist the building maintenance craftsperson/technicians in duties as instructed by the Supervisor.

8) The list of tasks will be continuously developed within the agreed skill level of the post but will include, for example:

a. Maintenance of critical plant and equipment e.g., AHU'sb. Replacement or repair of Pump Systems

12) Support Estate personnel in assisting/liaising with site customers and contractors.

13) To work with all Estates Supervisors and managers in the management of Risks. This will include working to agreed Risk Assessments and assisting in the development of additional Risk Assessments

14) To carry out work in line with all trust policies including but not extensive to

a. patient areasb. working at heightsc. confined spacesd. radiation controlled arease. hostile environmentsf. permit to work systems

15) Undertake training where necessary to learn new techniques;

16) Assemble and erect new work i.e. desks, furniture.

17) To be skilled in the safe use of all relevant hand tools and equipment.

18) Other duties as directed. Which may include

a. patch plastering,b. minor joineryc. unblocking sinks/toiletsd. painting dutiese. assisting the head gardenerf. minor tiling repairsg. snow clearingh. minor building work.

  • GCSE Garde A-C or equivalent English, Maths and Science

Desirable

  • Basic qualification in one or more of the following disciplines: Electrical, Mechanical, Joinery, Building

Experience

  • Able to demonstrate previous experience in a maintenance support role within the engineering or building field

Desirable

  • Previous experience in NHS building maintenance.
