We have a fantastic opportunity at Band 6 (£35392- £42618), subject to annually reviewed Recruitment and Retention bonus of 12% (£39639 - £47732), to join our team of engineers providing technical support to our Radiotherapy service, primarily at our Salford Radiotherapy centre, equipped with Elekta Radiotherapy Linear Accelerators (https://www.elekta.com/products/radiation-therapy/ ) and Philips CT Scanners ( https://www.philips.co.uk/healthcare/product/HC728242/big-bore-rt ).
We are looking for an enthusiastic and flexible service engineer, who is keen to learn and develop new skills, to join the team responsible for the maintenance and repair of our radiotherapy and CT Scanner assets.
You should be qualified to at least HNC level (Level 4) in electronic/electrical engineering or a similar discipline and have a good mechanical aptitude, coupled with experience in electro-mechanical engineering and maintenance of complex systems, within industries such as Healthcare, Semiconductor Manufacturing, the Armed Forces, and radar systems or other similar roles.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate should have a strong teamworking ethic with excellent technical and communication skills and be able to solve complex problems under time pressure.
You will liaise directly with clinical colleagues and equipment users providing expert technical advice for our equipment base.
Duties will involve fault finding, repairs, planned maintenance, and quality control measurements, of complex radiotherapy equipment including peripherals, within an ISO 9001:2015 quality framework (For further details see Job description)

Our engineers are split between 4 Sites you will be expected to support all sites as the need arises, however the role will be predominantly based at our Salford Radiotherapy centre co-located with the Salford Royal Hospital

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
General
- Work as part of multidisciplinary teams to support and develop the clinical radiotherapy service.
- When trained, will lead service work in photon therapy for machine ownership scheme
- Provide technical advice to clinical and other staff groups as required.
- Will be required to work within the ISO 9001(2015) Radiotherapy Quality System framework.
- Requirement for working hours to minimize interruption to clinical service, including bank holidays and weekends, including outside of normal agenda for change working hours
- Participate in the extended shift system
- When trained, repair of complex safety critical medical equipment. Requiring in depth analysis and diagnostic skills. Exercise judgement to determine the causes of faults in devices with multiple complex inter-related systems. Data analysis on complex medical equipment required to predict breakdown.
- Commenting on interdepartmental procedures and work instructions for the physics group and may also propose changes to current procedures.
- To participate in the physics quality control of the radiotherapy / diagnostic equipment.
- Will be expected to work at any of the Christie sites at short notice.
- Will be based at any of the Christie sites and will be part of a rota on all Christie sites.
- Participate on an on-call rota as required.
Technical Support for Clinical Radiotherapy Treatment equipment
- Carry out repair, calibration, and safety testing of highly complex Radiotherapy equipment. Makes decisions to take safety critical equipment out of clinical use.
- The running up and preparation of radiotherapy equipment for clinical use and the closing down of equipment on completion of use.
- To carry out and record approved modifications to radiotherapy equipment.
- To maintain proper records of all work carried out on the radiotherapy equipment
- Performs regular high precision machine quality control checks, measurements and associated adjustments to fractional mm accuracy.
- Will have to work on radiotherapy equipment whilst patient is in the treatment room, or on the treatment couch.
- To ensure that all radiotherapy equipment works to manufacturers specification.
- To maintain specialist equipment technical records and reports for the organization.
Technical support for Medical Devices
- To provide specialist technical support to X-ray imaging systems, axis lasers and all peripherals used on radiotherapy/diagnostic equipment. This includes Brachytherapy systems
- To assist with technical support to radiotherapy MRSim / CTsim as required
- The maintenance of all test, measurement and service instruments and equipment including dose measurement instruments.
- To participate in the development and construction of instrumentation and equipment to support the service.
- Will work on R&V solutions and liaise with appropriate manufacturer to maintain clinical uptime
- Will work on any equipment that supports treatment of patients within radiotherapy and diagnostic departments
- Will participate in source changes for brachytherapy equipment if required
