Job summary

This post is an opportunity to work within the neuroendocrine tumour (NET) disease group. This post involves working as a physician under consultant supervision in one NET outpatient clinic (Friday morning). This clinic sees a combination of new, follow up and review of patients undergoing treatment with somatostatin analogues, chemotherapy and targeted therapies.

Main duties of the job

The duties and responsibilities of the role, which may be adjusted in the light of changing/developing priorities, include:

  • Attendance and review of patients in a weekly NET clinic (Friday morning).
  • Maintaining knowledge of local, national and international developments in diagnosis and treatment of NET malignancies through attendance at the NET clinic and reading relevant publications, as appropriate.

There are 45 Consultants within Medical Oncology who run the clinical service and research practice.

The duties and responsibilities of the role, which may be adjusted in the light of changing/developing priorities, include:

  • Attendance and review of patients in the weekly HPB clinic (Friday morning).
  • Completion of and maintenance of Good Clinical Practice Certification (regulatory requirement for clinical trial participation, if appropriate).
  • Become familiar with ongoing NET clinical trials, as appropriate (for context when seeing outpatients in clinic).
  • Provide a point of contact for General Practitioners as a community expert in the field of NET.
  • Potential for setting up and coordinating training days for General Practitioners in the speciality of NET, if desired.
  • Potential for maintenance and update of educational material/training for General Practitioners, if desired.
  • Maintaining knowledge of local, national and international developments in diagnosis and treatment of NET through attendance at conferences, as appropriate.

Continuing Professional Development

The Trust supports the requirements for continuing professional development (CPD) as laid down by the GMC and surgical colleges and is committed to providing time and financial support for these activities.
