Job summary
The Trust is seeking to appoint a new substantive Consultant Radiologist with a special interest in Interventional Oncological Radiology. This post is for 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) per week, inclusive of 2.5SPA, and is a substantive post. There is also an on-call commitment.
The appointee will be based at The Christie's main site in Withington and will join a team of 22 Consultants of which there are currently 5 specialist Interventionalists. As a Consultant Radiologist at The Christie, the post holder will be an Oncological Radiologist with experience in all aspects of cancer imaging; expertise in Interventional Radiology; and experience in the chairing of Cancer MDTs.
The Christie's Interventional Radiology service is a leading centre for enteric intervention, liver intervention, and transradial access; hosting a number of international courses. Commonly performed procedures include, but are not limited to: nutritional support procedures, vascular support procedures, stenting of the GI tract, percutaneous liver intervention (PTC, RFA), percutaneous genito-urinary intervention, venous intervention (SVC, IVC, Varicocoeles) symptomatic tumour embolisations, PAE, Chemo-embolisation and Selective Internal Radiation Therapy (SIRT).
The Interventional service operates out of modern facilities within the Trust's Integrated Procedure Unit. There are two dedicated Interventional suites and the unit provides the service with direct access to recovery and day-case facilities
Main duties of the job
This post is for 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) per week, inclusive of 2.5SPA, and is a substantive post. There is also an on-call commitment.
Applicants must be on or eligible for GMC specialist register for Radiology within 6 months of the interview date. The successful applicant(s) will be required to apply for an enhanced DBS

The department currently supports 23 disease related clinical Multidisciplinary Team Meetings (MDTMs). Each MDT has a lead consultant and the meetings are covered by rota of between three and five consultants. The post holder will be expected to contribute to at least 2 MDT meetings and to develop subspecialty interest in these disease areas. The MDT consultant rotas are reviewed annually to meet the MDT peer review requirements and provide an appropriate distribution of workload and case mix.
