Job summary
A two year clinical fellowship has been created to allow the applicant to gain experience in advanced radiotherapy and imaging. The particular emphasis of this fellowship will be towards the technological advances in Radiation Oncology. This position could be adapted to an MD if the candidate desired.
The applicant would be involved in developing clinical trials using the MR-Linac with a particular focus on gynaecological cancers and would be encouraged to pursue original research projects. It would be expected that such work would lead to abstracts, presentations and publications
Main duties of the job
This position is suitable for individuals who wish to gain specialist training in advanced radiotherapy and imaging. Attainment of the MRCP and FRCR or equivalent are expected. There is opportunity for developing research within the Christie Hospital and Cancer Research UK Manchester Institute.
This post is for 40 hours per week to provide support for gynae clinics plus gynaecological cancer research taking place in the Radiotherapy Related Research Group within the department of Clinical Oncology.
Main duties include:
. Patient recruitment
. Assist in developing protocols.
. Carry out data capture and data merger of clinical, radiological and pathological-relevant information at the different stages of the project.
. Delineation and volumetric imaging of the cervix and soft tissue for plan adaption/delivery and Diffusion Weighted Imaging (DWI).
. Measure early changes in DWI imaging during radiotherapy.
. Coordinate the input of clinical, radiological and pathological data suitable for appropriate statistical modelling.
. Work with other clinical oncologists, radiologists, radiotherapy planning specialists, physicists, systematic review methodologists, and statisticians to ensure a collaborative working environment.
. Produce, or contribute towards, high impact peer-reviewed publications.
. Disseminate research findings through presentations at seminars and conferences.
. Interact with allied research activities.
About us
The post would work within the Radiotherapy Related Research Group, which includes world-leading collaborative researchers in RT immunology, radiobiology, biomarkers, pre-clinical drug RT combination studies, RT physics, computational oncology and Proton Beam Therapy. This post will be integral to the activities of CRUK RadNet Centre Early Trials Hub. The post holder will join the Christie gynaecology oncology team with three consultant clinical oncologists, Dr Lisa Barraclough, Dr Kate Haslett and Dr Siobhan Morrison. The imaging work will involve collaboration with the Christie MR imaging physicists and the MR Linac team. Laboratory work is undertaken on the Oglesby Cancer Research Building on the Christie site within the RRR Translational Radiobiology Group. In addition as a component of the University of Manchester Cancer Research Centre there are plentiful opportunities to join laboratory meetings and regular seminars on various related subjects.
