A rare opportunity has been created to join the exceptional Histopathologist Consultant team at the Christie Specialist Oncology Treatment Centre. We welcome applications from interested professionals with a passion for excellence in cancer diagnoses and treatment and a drive to undertake future research driven developments.You will join the team of 10 Consultant Histopathologists with junior support from the deanery rotation and the recently created clinical fellow post. The team are highly valued and respected clinicians within our multi-disciplinary Oncology teams here at the Christie. We strive for continuation in improved outcomes for patients as the largest cancer treatment centre of its kind in Europe, and an international leader in cancer research and development.
Main duties of the job
This post is for 10 Programmed Activities (PA's) Ideally you will be able to demonstrate expertise in gastrointestinal pathology or have a strong desire to develop this. Additional interest pathology, and neuroendocrine pathology would be adventageous.
This is a permanent consultant post based at the Christie NHS Foundation Trust. The appointee will participate in the day to day running of the department including the Consultant of the day responsibility. There will be an opportunity to take on the clinical lead role for the department should the successful candidate have the drive and ambition to lead the service.
About us
The Histopathology service receives around 8,000 internal and external referrals per annum.
The case mix of the Department as a whole is unusual and includes a high proportion of uncommon and difficult diagnostic problems. The areas of oncological pathology covered include haemolymphoid, soft tissue, skin, urological, colorectal (including pseudomyxoma and other peritoneal tumours), neuroendocrine, GI, gynaecological, head and neck (oral, salivary gland, thyroid, upper respiratory tract and a few orbital tumours) and lung/pleural tumours. Gastrointestinal cases constitute approximately 16% of the referrals the service receives.
The Christie Colorectal and Peritoneal Oncology Centre is a specialised service treating advanced and rare disease with some of the most innovative treatment options. We are one of only two hospitals in England offering cytoreductive surgery (CRS) and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) for patients with appendiceal tumours and PMP.

- FRCPath or evidence of equivalent qualification
- Full and specialist registration (and a licence to practice) with the GMC (or eligible for the registration within six months of interview)
