Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 5 Occupational Therapist at the Christie NHS Foundation Trust.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, innovative and motivated Occupational Therapist who is interested in working in oncology and palliative care to join our team of highly skilled staff. Our staff are central to delivering the Inpatient service and we are keen to recruit a high calibre member of staff who will be offered the support required to fulfil their roles, as well as being provided with the training and experience to further their skills and build a career of which they are proud of.
Main duties of the job
There will be learning opportunities in the Occupational Therapy team to develop skills and knowledge in Proton Beam therapy, Teenage and Young Adult and specialist Haematology services

Job responsibilities
CLINICAL
- To undertake occupational therapy assessments of functional abilities and provide individualised treatment plans, rehabilitation and equipment, to maximise independence both in hospital and for safe discharge home.
- To be professionally responsible for your own caseload and using evidenced-based practice, apply patient centred principles to complete interventions.
- To use clinical reasoning skills to address occupational performance deficits during the assessment process, enabling independence in areas of self-maintenance and productivity.
- To monitor, evaluate and modify treatment for patients in order to measure progress and ensure effectiveness of intervention.
- To manage clinical risk within own patient caseload and in own work area.
- To demonstrate and apply a broad level of understanding of the effects of cancer diagnosis and treatment for individuals throughout their treatment journey.
- Provide a high level of targeted psychological support to patients and their families/friends
- To assess patients for occupational therapy and specialist equipment e.g. wheelchairs and hoists.
- To always work in a manner that respects peoples culture, privacy, dignity and individuality.

- To assist where necessary in the provision of cover for the department as a whole in times of annual leave/sickness etc.
- To be responsible for the safe and competent use of all occupational therapy equipment and ensure that assistants, occupational therapy students, carers and other health care professionals attain competency prior to use.
- To produce timely and informative reports and discharge summaries for other agencies, e.g. GPs, consultants, social services, primary care colleagues, as requested, to ensure effective and seamless pathways of care.
- Delegate appropriate work load to the Occupational Therapy Assistants.
