Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Maternity Manager for Maternity Outpatients Department

The closing date is 24 February 2026

Job summary

We are seeking an inspirational and highly motivated maternity leader to manage the Antenatal Outpatients Department, encompassing Antenatal Clinics and the Antenatal Day Assessment Unit. The post holder will have a passion for delivering high-quality, woman-centred antenatal care across both consultant-led and midwifery-led services, ensuring safe, responsive pathways for women with both low-risk and complex needs.

You will provide strong, visible leadership to midwives and maternity support workers, and work collaboratively with obstetric consultants and the wider maternity leadership team. The role requires the ability to drive service development, and continuously improve patient experience, safety, and flow. You will lead change, support staff development, and ensure services are delivered in line with national standards and local priorities, while working in partnership with other maternity managers to shape the future of antenatal care.

You must demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to provide constructive challenge where appropriate, ensuring competence, professionalism and compassion are embedded across the service.

Main duties of the job

The role will include, but not be limited to:

  • Day-to-day operational management of Antenatal Clinics and the Antenatal Day Assessment Unit, ensuring safe, effective and timely care delivery across consultant-led and midwifery-led services.

  • Line management and professional leadership of midwives and maternity support workers within the antenatal outpatient and day assessment services, including workforce planning, appraisal, supervision and staff wellbeing.

  • Service development and quality improvement, including the development, implementation and ongoing review of clinical standards, pathways and policies in line with national guidance and local governance frameworks.

  • Management of allocated budgets, including staffing, skill mix, equipment, clinic utilisation, premises and consumables, ensuring services are delivered efficiently and sustainably.

  • Effective multidisciplinary working, fostering strong collaborative relationships with obstetric consultants, sonography, anaesthetics, neonatal teams and wider support services to optimise patient flow and outcomes.

  • Provision of visible clinical leadership, maintaining clinical credibility within antenatal services and promoting evidence-based, woman-centred care.

  • Monitoring and reviewing service performance, activity, capacity, outcomes and patient experience, using data and feedback to inform continuous improvement.

About us

Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (MCHFT) provides good quality, safe and effective healthcare to the people of Cheshire and beyond. The Trust, which manages Leighton Hospital in Crewe, Victoria Infirmary in Northwich, and Elmhurst Intermediate Care Centre in Winsford, was established as an NHS Trust in April 1991 and became a Foundation Trust in April 2008.

We employ almost 5,000 members of staff, provide around 540 hospital beds, with a range of services including accident and emergency, maternity, outpatients, therapies, and children's health.

The Trust is also part of Central Cheshire Integrated Care Partnership (CCICP), a unique local health partnership that provides a range of community services for people across South Cheshire and Vale Royal.

During the Coronavirus pandemic, the Trust was recognised nationally for its 'Be Safe Be EquiPPEd' campaign, which aimed to make the Trust as safe as possible for staff and patients, through supporting the correct use of PPE.

The results in the 2020 national NHS Staff Survey showed improvements in all elements of the safety culture theme, with 92% of respondents feeling their role made a difference to our patients. We were also recognised nationally for our workforce health and wellbeing initiatives.

At Mid Cheshire, we value our staff and appreciate that in order to give our patients the best quality, compassionate care, we also need to look after our colleagues.
