Job summary
We have a very exciting new opportunities to recruit to a number of Band 5 to Band 6 Progression roles in ophthalmology outpatients .
We are looking for motivated and enthusiastic staff nurses with an interest in the area of ophthalmology.
Within the progression role we will look to develop your skills from a B5 to B6 Skills within a 12-18 month period, including completing both ophthalmic nursing modules.
You will be expected to carry out preoperative assessments and intravitreal injections for patients once training is completed.
The exciting aspect of this new role is that once you enter the progression part of the training you can move to the Band 6 role at any time once all competencies are completed. It's a flexible exciting development opportunity. (All applications would be expected to transition to that B6 role within 12- 18 months, or there would be risk to the position) You will be provided with supervisions, training and support through out the process.
The Pre Operative Assessment Clinic (POAC) Nurse is responsible for the Pre-Operative assessment of patients being prepared for a variety of ophthalmic surgical procedures ensuring patients are physically and emotionally prepared for their surgery and delivering high standards of nursing care.
We are looking to recruit a dynamic, enthusiastic and self-motivated nurse who will possesses excellent communication skills and enjoys a challenge.
Main duties of the job
You will be expected to to compete both ophthalmic nursing modules and gain the experience required before progressing to the band 6 ophthalmic preoperative nurse/Nurse injector.
Full training will be given, however it is expected you take a keen interest in all aspects of band 5 and band 6 posts. You will be expected to carry out intravitreal injections using a sterile technique during clinics held at the Eye Car Centre and Northwich infirmary on a regular basis.
The post holder will be required to provide ophthalmic specialist advice and integral in ensuring that patients undergoing surgery, both under local and general anaesthetic, receive the appropriate care to ensure the highest outcomes.
You will need a good knowledge of ophthalmic surgical procedures and nursing care and be able to work both independently and as part of a team.
You are expected to have good slit lamp skills and able to review patients post operatively and /or other ophthalmic conditions.
You will also be required to deputise when the Department manager and/or the deputy manager are unavailable.
