Job summary

Applications are invited for a Locum Consultant Breast Screening Radiologist (0.8WTE) based at Leighton Hospital, Crewe, Cheshire.

This post will providethe successful candidate with an opportunity to pursue either a sole Breast Imaging career orto combine this discipline with other imaging interests. The Breast service is an integral partof the Imaging Department and provides screening services within the NHSBSP alongside alocal symptomatic provision. The standalone unit has Siemens Digital Mammographicequipment and Canon Ultrasound. MR breast imaging is provided locally using our 3 MRscanners.

Main duties of the job

The Medical Imaging Consultants form a cohesive team, and the appointee will need to bean excellent team player and offer flexibility. The post holder will be expected to participatein the operational management and strategic planning of the department.

In addition, the successful candidate will:

Be fully competent in running symptomatic and screening assessment clinics, solely or working in close association with consultant colleagues.

Have all the necessary skills to interpret breast imaging investigations and perform breast and axillary biopsies utilising a spectrum of guiding modalities.

Be able to Insert Magseed and other localisation devices.

Be skilled in communication and relaying bad news.

Be required to participate in MDT meetings

The Department provides a wide range of Medical Imaging services at Leighton Hospital, Crewe and Victoria Infirmary, Northwich for a population of approximately 320,000.
