Job summary
The ENT Department at Leighton Hospital is looking to appoint a Consultant in ENT with a specialist interest in Facial Plastic Surgery alongside a General ENT workload to meet the needs of the service. This is a new substantive post and is expected to provide a general workload in addition to a subspecialist workload which will be agreed with the successful candidate. The ENT service has been experiencing a period of growth and development and has seen an increase in referrals. The post is required to support the service in increasing our capacity and footprint within the local area, and to support the department in continuing to provide high quality care to the local population. The department provides diagnostic services for Head and Neck Cancer patients with strong links to Aintree University Hospital in Liverpool and The Christie in Manchester as tertiary treatment centres.
The proposed AAC date is 13.11.2024.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be based at Leighton Hospital, Crewe in the ENT Department, Surgery and Cancer Division. Out-patient activity may also be provided at Victoria Infirmary, Northwich. Out of hours cover is provided locally during the week but at the weekend, acute admissions are transferred to the Royal Stoke Hospital (University Hospital of North Midlands, UHNM). The middle grade rota is shared with UHNM both during the week and at the weekend. The Consultant rota is only shared with UHNM at the weekend.

The post is offered at 10 PAs but under the terms of the 2003 Consultant Contract, candidates who wish to conduct private practice would be required to offer an additional programmed activity.
Direct Clinical Care (DCC)
8 PAs per week incorporating ward rounds, out-patient clinics, theatre lists, multidisciplinary meetings and administration sessions. Each theatre session is remunerated at 1.25 PAs to include pre and post-operative visits and a 4 hour theatre session. On call is remunerated at 0.5 PA; Monday to Thursday nights locally on a 1 in 7 and providing cross cover with UHNM Friday 17:00 to Monday 08:00 on a 1 in 15 basis.
Supporting Professional Activities (SPA)
2 PAs per week. The SPAs will consist of 1 core SPA which will be worked flexibly in the job plan. An additional SPA allocation will be available if evidence of SPA to support the service is provided at the job planning meeting.
